Minutes of PTFA Meeting 09.06.2010

Apologies: Linda Rich, Alison Cropper, Helen Boden,

Minutes of previous meeting: accepted as correct.

Matters arising: Twitter- there are now 70 people involved in twitter. Water bottles- various firms can supply these.

Topic: Curriculum: What may change?
Staff outlined how they are looking at the breadth and balance of year 10/11 subjects, and the options systems. There is current concern about inequity of number of GCSEs gained by students depending on current subject choices. School are also considering ways of catering for pupils who may wish to follow a different options pathway from the majority of pupils.
A lively debate followed with parental concern about timing of option choices and the need for timely career advice across all ages.

Summer Science Fest: Posters were distributed.
Local feeder schools are to be contacted.
Progress is continuing with the various activities planned. The army are no longer available.
A meeting will be held the week before, Tuesday 6th of July 4.15pm to finalise plans.

Barn Dance: This will be in October or November in the school hall. J Edgar and the Hoovers are to be approached.

Treasurers Report
Current Balance: £9,300.00
Total spent on hall refurbishment was £18,000
Mr Donahue inquired regarding a contribution for the awards evening. It was agreed to donate £300 towards this.

50:50 Club
May Winners: Mrs E Taylor, Mrs B Moss, Mrs. M Avill,
June Winners: Mrs B Moss, Mr I Blake, Mrs S Palmer

AOB: Further discussion about water bottles led to this project being abandoned as it was agreed that few pupils would wish to purchase a bottle with a school logo.

“The giving machine” was highlighted as an easy way to raise funds. This is going to be promoted further.
