John Taylor High School Learning Resource Centre provides a cross-curricular library and learning environment at the heart of the school.
It supports the learning and teaching of all students and staff through the provision of information collections, a wide variety of fiction and other related services.
For many students it plays an important part in their day to day work. |

Use of the LRC
Every pupil is a member of the LRC and is entitled to borrow up to 4 items at a time and the loan period is 3 weeks.
6th Formers are allowed to borrow up to 6 items.
If you require more books for a particular project, or reference books on overnight loan, that can be arranged.
All items must be taken to the desk for issuing through the computer and returned to the desk once you have finished with them.
Any item can be renewed, you do not need to bring it in, as long as no-one else has reserved it. Just ask at the enquiry desk.
Facilities
The Library contains over 12,000 items of stock, including books, CDs, DVDs, newspapers, both national and local, over twenty different magazines, and project packs full of cuttings and leaflets. Nineteen networked PCs are available for use by pupils and staff, with access to the Internet and school's intranet. There are both laser and colour printers, along with photocopying and laminating facilities, and digital cameras for use around the school.
Also within the LRC is an extensive careers library with careers information in books, Connexions files, leaflets and university and college prospectuses, in addition to Careers programmes on all computers.
All of the resources are catalogued on our computerised management system, Eclipse.net, and you can search the catalogue via a workstation on the main desk using ‘Searchstar’. However, you can always ask for help if you need it.
Stationery Shop
We run a small shop which provides many items of stationery at very reasonable prices, including pens, pencils, maths equipment , wallets and files and memory sticks. Any profit we make goes towards buying more books!
Staffing
The LRC is managed by a Chartered Librarian, Mrs Moody, with a part-time assistant and an invaluable team of pupil Library assistants at break and lunchtime.
If you are interested in training to become an assistant in the LRC, there is an opportunity to do so around the May half-term in Year 7. Look out for the notice in the bulletin.
